How Facebook can make your life feel miserable?

Social networking sites can leave you with a skewed version of how happy your friends are - making your life seem depressing in comparison. Researchers showed people tend to broadcast good events and feelings, but hide negativity. When college students were asked how often they put experiences like crying and laughing on public sites, the researchers found that the participants broad casted good times but usually didn't post about negative emotions(Alexander Jordan, Ph.D; Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin; Stanford University).

The result: Social networking sites show you a constant flow of your friends’ happy photos and upbeat statuses, and so we tend to think our friends are happier than they are. That can lead us to believe that our lives are dull, sad, or boring in comparison(Alexander Jordan, Ph.D; Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin; Stanford University).

The solution is pretty simple, recognize that your friends hit rough patches, too, and that the things you see on social networking sites are edited versions of their lives(Alexander Jordan, Ph.D; Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin; Stanford University).
