~Brain Structure vs Specific Job~

New research has found certain professions have specialized brain structures to help them with their jobs. UK researchers recently studied 11 fighter pilots and compared them to non-pilots with similar IQs. The scans showed differences in the structures in the right hemisphere of the brain, suggesting that the pilots have expertise in attention and cognition(co-author Ed Roberts, Ph.D; University of Cambridge).

In another study, brain scans of London taxi drivers revealed a higher amount of gray matter in the part of the brain associated with navigation and special memory, and researchers at the University of Reading have been conducting brain scans to determine if CEOs’ leadership and decision-making skills are because of brain biology(Researcher from University College London).

Could your future as CEO depend on an MRI? Let’s hope not. Even if some people have the right brain for the job, a brain scan wouldn’t consider their motivation and personalities. Plus, you might develop special brain abilities because of your job. There is research suggesting that structural changes occur in the brain throughout adulthood, meaning with the proper training we might all be able to learn these skills(co-author Ed Roberts, Ph.D; University of Cambridge).
