~The New Cancer: Sugar!~

It’s the nutritional tragedy of our age. When you eat - or drink! - refined carbohydrates, your bloodstream is flooded with glucose, the high-octane energy source your body uses to fuel strenuous activity. The problem is, most of us participate in strenuous activity about as often as we win the lottery. Like, never. So if you don’t burn off the glucose, your body expends the hormone insulin to mop up the excess energy and store it in your cells for future use. That works fine for a while, until the gallons of extra glucose start to exhaust your poor insulin-producing pancreas, and the sweetness starts to linger in your bloodstream. That’s bad, because sweet blood is bad for small blood vessels, like the ones in your eyes, your genitals, and your extremities. Hence the rotting toes in the anti-sugar ad.

I see those toes and I see tragedy. My heart goes out to the poor victim who earned his or her spot in the limelight while losing the use of their feet. But my glucose-lite blood boils at the thought of the major food manufacturers who are inflicting their unhealthy products on a vulnerable population. In fact, we’re hard-wired to seek out sweet foods; to our ancestors, who encountered sweet treats in their foraging, they were the healthiest foods around. Think fruits and berries. Now, however, the food manufacturers feed our sweet instincts by leveling a sugar smart-bombs at our vulnerable appetites.

When they explode, our waistlines and health risks do, too.

~Thinking about Exercise Can Make You Fat~

New research found that just thinking about a workout can cause people to eat more. In the study, people who read a story about exercise served themselves 700 calories of a subsequent snack of M&Ms and other types of candy's. But those who answered questions about themselves downed 360 calories of the munchies(Journal Appetite).

Previous research has shown that some people tend to eat even more calories after they do certain types of exercise - sort of like they’re overcompensating for all the effort. It’s not clear just yet whether it’s to subconsciously reward themselves or because their bodies are reacting to the calories they just burned. And exercise has been shown to suppress appetite in some people, so there’s a highly individual response.

Some people might be prone to eating haphazardly, but that’s why you need a plan. In fact, this study just shows how important it is to have a specific dieting strategy with you - and enough willpower to stick to it(Alan Aragon, M.S; Men’s Health weight loss advisor).

Use forMaking the right decision in high pressure meeting.

~Counting the sheep help you sleep~

Our fluffy friends have long been thought of as shepherdesses of slumber, but it turns out we've had the wool pulled over our eyes.

Scientists recently found techniques involving more complicated tasks, were more effective. Try counting backwards from 1000 in groups of seven. or from 300 in 3 threes. If the numbers aren't your thing, imagine being an astronaut on a space walk, floating weightlessly around the earth, watching it rotate. Or simply picture your favorite place to be. If that happen to be a in a field full of sheep, then you need to get out more (Michael Breus; The Sleep Doctor; Oxford University).

If it's roughly the same length as her pointer finger, she's a good negotiator. If her ring finger is is much longer than her pointer finger, she's like to direct. Ideally, she's what you're not: In this case, opposites attract (Helen Fisher, Ph.D; Professor of biological anthropology at Rutgers).

3)Does she laugh at your joke?
If she just doesn't understand you, or vice versa, you two maybe on different intellectual levels. And if that's the case, you probably won't be happy in the long term. Find out if she likes the same book or music; these are indicators of intellectual compatibility (Nancy Slotnick; founder of Cablight. com).
